Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use distances.online (the "site"), who processes it and what choices you have. The short version: we do not ask for or store any personal information, but the site relies on a few third-party services (maps, analytics and advertising) that process some technical data under their own policies, described below.

1. Who we are

distances.online is a free distance calculator operated by an independent developer based in Argentina. There is no company, no user accounts and no server of our own: the site is a set of static pages served through Cloudflare, and all calculations run in your browser. You can reach us at [email protected].

2. Information we do not collect

We do not:

3. Data processed to answer your request

To turn a place name into coordinates, draw the map and compute road routes, your browser sends requests directly to third-party services. Each of those services receives the data a web request normally carries (your IP address, browser type, language) together with the place names or coordinates you entered. We do not see or store these requests. Depending on the site's configuration the providers are:

These providers process the data to answer the request and may keep server logs according to their own policies.

4. Data stored in your browser

The site stores a small amount of data on your device so it works the way you left it:

None of this is sent to us or used to identify you. You can clear it at any time from your browser settings.

5. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google LLC, to understand how many people visit the site, which pages and languages are used and whether the calculator works. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga and _ga_*) to tell visits apart and processes your IP address and device information. We use it only for aggregated statistics; we do not use it to identify individual visitors and we have not enabled advertising features in it.

You can learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and you can block Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

6. Advertising

The site is supported by advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners are third-party vendors that use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads and to measure them:

The site may also show ads from Adsterra, a separate advertising network. Adsterra and the advertisers it works with may likewise use cookies, pixels and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, and process your IP address and device information under the Adsterra privacy policy. You can refuse these cookies in your browser settings, as described below.

You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google in Google Ads Settings and from many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices. More information on Google's advertising cookies is available at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be shown a consent message before any personalised advertising cookies are set, and you can change your choice at any time from the link in the site footer.

7. Cookies at a glance

You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings. The calculator keeps working without them; only your language preference will not be remembered.

8. Hosting

The site is delivered by Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request headers to serve the pages and to protect the site against abuse, and may keep short-lived logs for that purpose (Cloudflare privacy policy).

9. Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your country) and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

10. Your rights

Because we do not hold personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on request. For data processed by Google, Cloudflare or the map providers, you can exercise your rights of access, rectification, deletion and objection directly with them through the links above. If you believe we have processed your data in a way that is not described here, write to us and we will look into it. Residents of the European Union may also complain to their local data protection authority.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site or the services it uses change. The date at the top of the page shows the last revision. Material changes will be announced on this page.

12. Contact

Questions about this policy: [email protected], or through the contact page.
